La représentation de l’homosexualité au cinéma suit l’évolution de la société. La présence de plus en plus importante dans les médias de masse des images véhiculant la culture gay durant ces trente dernières années le prouve. Grâce à un grand nombre d’archives, ce documentaire explore l’émergence des films gays : des premiers travaux expérimentaux de Jack Smith au succès populaire et critique de Brokeback Mountain, en passant par des auteurs engagés comme John Waters, Todd Haynes ou Gus Van Sant.
