Jacob Singer est un blessé de la guerre du Vietnam rapatrié aux États-Unis. Depuis son retour au pays, il est obsédé par les images de cette guerre qui hantent son esprit. Il se sent pourchassé par des démons sans visages et sent autour de lui des forces hostiles qui cherchent à le tuer.
