Depuis la mort de sa femme Sonya, Otto est devenu grincheux et dépressif. Il se sent vieux et n'attend plus qu'une seule chose : la mort. Renvoyé de son emploi, il erre sans but, surveille le quartier et se brouille avec ses voisins. C'est alors que l'arrivée d'une nouvelle famille dans la rue, avec notamment deux petites filles, va bouleverser son quotidien.
