Jon Bernthal est un acteur américain né le 20 septembre 1976 à Washington, D.C. Issu d'une famille juive ashkénaze, fils d'un avocat et petit-fils du musicien Murray Bernthal, il grandit dans la région de Washington avant d'étudier le théâtre à la Moscow Art Theatre School en Russie, puis à l'Institute for Advanced Theater Training de Harvard (diplômé en 2002). Il débute au théâtre à New York et apparaît dans des séries comme Law & Order avant d'obtenir un rôle régulier dans The Class (2006-2007).
