Il s'est fait connaître pour son travail innovant sur des films emblématiques de réalisateurs tels que Steven Spielberg, George Lucas et James Cameron. Dès son plus jeune âge, Muren s'intéresse au cinéma et aux trucages visuels. À 14 ans, ses parents lui offrent une caméra 16 mm, lui permettant de s'initier au stop motion.
